Rod Design and Features
Rod Construction Process
We take great pride in our craftsmanship - it's what we love to do. And these are some of the steps that we just wouldn't build a rod without.
100% Blank Stress Test - Each and every blank is individually stress-tested to ensure that the product you receive is ready to battle the lunker you've been looking for.
"Perfect Match" Handle Construction - Our grips and reel seats are taper reamed to match the actual rod blank that it will be built on. This ensures close fit for maximum sensitivity, and also produces the strongest bonding of the epoxy to the rod blank. We only use specially formulated rod building epoxy for all grip construction.
Guide Prep and Wraps - Prepping guides refers to buffing all the sharp edges off of the guide foot before wrapping them on the rod blank. Then we install a light "buffer adhesive" between the guide and rod blank. Elimination of the sharp edges and the buffer adhesive prevents the foot from cutting in to the blank when it flexes. "prepping" guides is not standard practice for most large rod manufacturers, however this is just an example of the extra care we put into building our rods. The guides are then wrapped to the blank with nylon thread and sealed with two coats of epoxy for extra durability and a beautiful appearance.
Rod Design Features
Tru-Kast Guide System - Uses a series of guides whose size and placement on the rod have been carefully selected to produce maximum distance and pinpoint casting accuracy. These properly sized and spaced guides also increase sensitivity, reduce rod weight and help the rod to "dampen" quickly.
TSD Design - Our TSD (Total Strike Detection) combines the ultimate in vibration transmission with fine tuned rod balance. This not only allows you to feel taps and hits, but to also detect minute changes in resistance, and "sense" extremely light bites under the toughest of conditions.
Components
All of our rods feature these top quality components:
Classic Series
RX 43 Blank - Our Custom Graphite blanks are 43 million modulus, high strain, high sensitivity blanks. They are finished in a rich matte gray.
Batson Forecast Guides - Top quality ceramic guides. Highly polished, excellent hardness, and very low coefficient of friction. Easliy handles all braided lines.
Cork Grips - Durable Grade A or better cork grips. Fore grips feature cork accent rings for a truly classy look.
Nickle Hooded Graphite Reel Seats - Hold your reel securely, very sensitive, warm and comfortable in all conditions.
ERX MUSKY SERIES (Elk-River Extreme)
MMX5 Blank - State-of-the-art Multi-Modulus 100% graphite blank construction, made with different modulus materials throughout the rod. This creates an extremely strong, lightweight and easy casting rod.
Batson Titanium Nitride Coated Guides - The deep pressed rings stainless steel frames ensure durability, while the titanium nitride coating is extremely hard offering superior protection from "super-braids" and chipping.
Tip-Top - Smooth coated flanged tip-tops for super-strength and reduction of line friction.
Cork Grips - All of our musky rods feature "Meaty" 1 - 1/4 inch Grade A cork grips.
Nickle Hooded Graphite Reel Seats - Strong graphite reel seats with nickle colored hoods.
